Juan Garibay

Juan came to Los Amigos Research and Education Institute, Inc. (LAREI) of the Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center (Rancho) in 1999 as a NIDRR Scholar.

The National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research awards a small number of scholarships every year to promising and earnest young students with disabilities in order to introduce them to the field of Rehabilitation Engineering.

Juan started as an advisor in the Hands-on Experiences in Rehabilitation Engineering Program (HERE) based at California State University, Los Angeles. He worked skillfully and patiently with both new and senior students, advising them on design projects that would help disabled persons, like himself, live more satisfying, productive and independent lives.

Juan grew from this early experience with the college students, and in October of 2005 he joined the KnowBarriers team.
